Background
I am a licensed clinical social worker, (WA state license number: LW00006211), with a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Iowa. I have over 25 years of experience in clinical practice.
My work experience is diverse and extensive with a focus on working with families from various backgrounds. I have spent the past several years working in a pediatric transplant center with children and their families. In that time I have developed skills in adjustment to illness, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, life transition and family relations issues. More recently my focus has been on couple’s therapy and divorce mediation. This is in particular to multicultural or culturally blended couples and families. Prior to that, my work experience was in program development, teaching undergraduate social work students, and training professionals.
Additionally, I worked internationally and have acquired training from the University of Washington in working with culturally diverse populations. My expertise, although applicable to other cultures, is particularly relevant to working with Arab American individuals, couples, families and professionals working with Arab American individuals. I am bilingual and can use my Arabic language competency to meet the needs of that population.
My style of counseling is interactive, engaging and supportive. I incorporate multiple intervention modalities to personalize client experience and growth. My system’s-training and therapeutic approach focuses on providing support with helpful and practical feedback to build on the client’s strengths to attain personal growth they can identify and commit to accomplish.
